Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice – The Dark Knight Returns In Reverse?

So we’re hearing a lot of news about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cast announcements, plot lines, shooting locations, etc. I am a massive Batman fan, so all of this has me giddy with excitement. One of the main talking points is that the storyline will draw from The Dark Knight Returns story arc. I hadn’t watched or read this in a while ,so I sat down to watch the animated film adaptation in preparation.

The story is as follows: an older Bruce Wayne has retired from his nightly duties, but with crime still rampant in the city of Gotham, he decides to don the cowl and cape once again. He sets about bringing down an organization known as “The Mutants,” but this causes an outcry. Namely, people are upset at the unwanted destruction, and as a result, more and more vigilantes start coming out of the woodwork (much to the dismay of Gotham’s new commissioner and the President of the United States). With all of this going on, they enlist the services of Superman to bring the Dark Knight down, once and for all.

This is where the plot for the movie could begin to take place, aside from a few omissions. We have the more mature Batman (Ben Affleck) taking on Superman (Henry Cavill), but I may think it will take the opposite route. Coming off of the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel, the government may be wary of Superman and what he can do. They could possibly hand to Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg) the job of bringing him down. As smart as he is, he may realize that bringing down the man in blue and red is no easy feat. He’ll need help from a seasoned Batman to step in and fight in his place.

This will all be carried out until a point where Lex Luther is discovered to be the real enemy, possibly pointed out by Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. By this time, Lex may have a plan B to stop all three heroes,so they may need some help. Namely Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and possibly even Carrie Kelley’s Robin (rumoured to be Jena Malone), though there’s no news on Green Lantern as of yet.

Now if I’m right, and remember I’m just guessing, this could be one hell of a movie. I’ll be first in line with my popcorn and notebook on its release date. Whichever route they take on the final storyline, let’s hope they do it justice (see what I did there?).

Stay tuned …
