Whatever a Spider Can has a new reporter – Meet C.T. Smith!
By C.T. Smith
Hello true believers! My name is Christian Yabut, but for years I’ve gone by the name C.T. Smith in many mediums as well as in real life. I’m 22 years old, fresh out of college and living on the east coast for the first time. I’ve moved around the world many times growing up but no matter my location, my core interests have remained strong. I’m into comics (of course!), video games (mainly PC but consoles/mobile too!), manga, movies, and science! I look forward to writing about everyone’s favorite Web-slinger.
No matter the odds, the Parker luck, or any other variables presented to him, we can count on Spidey to always come through, and give us some of the best comic book stories out there.
Why do you like Spider-Man?: Simple, I like him because he’s the best! Remember, Cable, the premier time-traveler himself, even said that Spidey would become the greatest of them all. But to put concrete reasoning behind it, I like Spider-Man because he has a unique set of powers that aren’t overpowered, but through wits and willpower can lead him to victory. The concept of a spider-sense is an incredible ability, but even when he lost it he learned kung fu and retained his awesomeness with the way of the spider. He has the best alternate versions (to me at least), and he’s funny! And superhero team ups and villain beatdowns do need some humor from time to time. In my opinion, Peter Parker will always have the most heart of any superhero. He sincerely cares for those around him, and has always… well most of the time, followed a high moral compass. No matter the odds, the Parker luck, or any other variables presented to him, we can count on Spidey to always come through, and give us some of the best comic book stories out there.
What is your most favorite Spider-Man Arc?: My first and foremost favorite arc is the Superior Spider-Man run that ended this year. Okay, yes, Peter Parker is still the best Spider-Man near and dear to my heart, but Doc Ock’s run as the Webhead was spectacular to me. It offered up a brand new perspective, a what-if story that was canon. He was efficient, ruthless, made sweet alterations to the suit, and his rise and subsequent fall grabbed me from the very beginning. I’d say more but I’d like to save that for a future article. Otherwise, I liked both Secret Wars and Civil War, where Peter played a big part in both and showed off his skills against other heroes, Spider-Island – because of seeing everyone with Pete’s powers, and finally the trifecta of Big Time, No One Dies, and Back in Black, which were all pretty great and introduced some cool costumes.
And lastly, who in all of the Spider-Verse would you say is your most favorite character?: Superior Spider-Man is my gut answer, but I really like Spider-Gwen (who doesn’t am I right?), Spider-Ham, who’s had some great interactions so far, and Assassin Spider-Man, who is the coolest.
I look forward to writing about all things Spider-Man and I hope the readers enjoy!
