Sean Young REALLY Wanted To Be In Tim Burton’s Batman
We are winding down not only the 75th anniversary of Batman, but the 25th anniversary of The 1989 Batman movie as well. With that in mind, we have an insane story for you. Such is the case with Cracked’s article on famous movie meltdowns. Coming in at number one is Sean Young. Sean Young was a huge star in the 80’s with films like Blade Runner, Dune & No Way Out. She was all set to be in another big blockbuster, Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, as love interest Vicki Vale. Unfortunately Sean Young broke her arm before shooting even began and was replaced by Kim Basinger.
Now granted, if you really wanted to be in a Batman film, and had a part but lost it due to lousy luck such as breaking your arm, it’s reasonable to try again. It’s the way Sean Young went about that is completely crazy. When it came time to cast for the sequel, Batman Returns, she was passed over for the role of Catwoman (that of course went to Michelle Pfeiffer), and you think that’d be the end of it. But no, Sean Young made her own Catwoman costume, showed up on set and auditioned on the spot. But since no one invited or wanted her there, this understandable scared the hell out of Michael Keaton. Tim Burton? He was actively hiding from her. You know, when Tim Burton is afraid of you, you might want to dial it back a little.
