Batman’s 75th Anniversary draws to a close, so we here at Caped Crusades intend to fill these twilight days talking about the year that was. A lot of big Batman moments happened this year, so let’s review them as many as we can before our year-end festivities come to an end!

This year a documentary debuted that set out to examine the Caped Crusader and the way he has impacted every facet of modern culture. Filmmaker Brett Culp’s Legends of the Knight  met favorable reviews and helped put Batman’s place in our world into perspective. The best part? It was for charity.

"LEGENDS OF THE KNIGHT weaves together the uplifting true stories of individuals who have overcome devastating obstacles, unselfishly given to the community, and embraced their inner superhero because of their love of Batman.Through the deeply personal tales of Batman fans, writers, and filmmakers, this feature-length documentary explores the power of heroic stories and encourages viewers to find their own path to heroism. Funded by over 1,100 contributors from around the world, LEGENDS OF THE KNIGHT is a return to our childhood dreams of being a hero. The film has screened in 90 cities, with proceeds benefiting charities and the families they serve.  Each screening has become an evening of inspiration and heroic possibilities for families – with superhero costumes & capes – while raising awareness and funds for charity.Over 60 charities have benefited, including Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish, St Jude’s, Boys & Girls Club, MDA, Special Olympics, children’s hospitals, and more."

From our blog’s review of the film:

"Probably my favorite story in the Legends of Batman was that of the Petaluma Batman. Almost no one knows who is behind the mask but what we do know about him is pretty amazing. He’s a young junior college student, 19 at the time the film was made, (about two years ago I think) and he has taken it upon himself to patrol Petaluma, raise money for a local school or library, and showing his community that anyone can be a hero. Most people his age don’t think so altruistically, it’s so wonderful to see a young man doing his part to better his community even as he goes to college and works a job. Like Lenny he doesn’t get paid for dressing as Batman, he simply does it because Batman inspired him to be a hero."
