Would You Sell Your Comic Collection To Buy A Comic Book Store?
By Nick Tylwalk
Let’s say you have an extremely impressive, valuable comic book collection — and since you’re reading this site, the chances of you having one are higher than normal! Would you be willing to part with the whole thing, including every single issue of one of the most famous super hero series of all, to have the opportunity to own your own comic shop?
That’s what Eddie DeAngelini is doing right this second. His Amazing Spider-Man collection is truly impressive, and it’s currently up for auction at ComicConnect. The entire run of the series is in the auction; some issues in groups, but many individually. There’s even a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, which has been bid up to $1,100 as I write this even though it’s not in the greatest shape.
DeAngelini is expecting a five-digit return from the auction, and he’s using it to become part owner of Hi De Ho Comics in Santa Monica, California, said to be the oldest comic book shop in the L.A. area. It was a tough decision, but one that DeAngelini told Spider-Man Crawlspace he felt was worth it:
"Although it was hard to part with the collection, the amount that it will bring will open up a new life changing opportunity."
Besides, once you own a comic store, you can always start another collection, right?
To help DeAngelini or just make part of his collection your own, you can bid on his auction items through January 12.
