Fox Sets A Release Date For Gambit Solo Film
By Steve Lam
Fox’s Marvel universe is certainly growing as the new Gambit spin-off movie, starring Channing Tatum as the famous Cajun, has been given an official release date of October 7, 2016. Confirmed earlier in 2014, Tatum will be making his first appearance as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Gambit was originally played by Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). It’s still unknown how much of the background story of Kitsch’s version of Gambit will carry over into the new solo film with Tatum, as X-Men Origins: Wolverine happens within Fox’s universe of Marvel films. Kitsch was initially interested in a Gambit solo film, but in a February 24, 2012 interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Kitsch stated that he was done with the character.
The Gambit solo film is being written by Josh Zetumer based on a treatment by longtime X-Men comic writer Chris Claremont, and being produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Channing Tatum, and Reid Carolin.
X-Men: Apocalypse has a release date of May 27, 2016 and will be directed by Bryan Singer and written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris, and Michael Dougherty.
