Well folks, reports are out, and Marvel has come ahead as the leader of comic sales in the year of 2014. As the figures from Diamond Comic Distributors show, Marvel Comics led the charts in both Dollar (34.38%) and Unit Market Shares (36.78%), putting them ahead of rival comic giant DC who held 28.86% Dollar Market Share.

Alongside these pleasing numbers, is the fact that comic book sales are up by 4.03%, which can only bode well for our boy in red and blue. Marvel also held nine out of ten of the top ten selling comic books of 2014. While we do love comics here at Whatever A Spider Can, our main focus of content is on everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and he knocked 2014 out of the park.

Not only was the Amazing Spider-Man #1 the top selling comic of 2014, selling an estimated 532.586 (source) units in April alone, but the dastardly, but Superior, Spider-Man #31 made it into history as the number 10 top selling comic of 2014. Whether its Peter Parker or Doc Ock controlling the Web-Head, Spider-Man is something that readers are enjoying and buying, and that should make every Spider-Fan happy.

Here’s to another year of spectacular comics, and let’s hope 2015 will only up the ante, and that Spider-Man will come out on top once more with interesting, innovative stories. And here’s a picture to remind you of the baton pass we’ll never forget, cheers.
