Amazing Spider-Man #11 Recap

It’s time to settle who the Superior Spider-Man truly is in the Amazing Spider-Man #11, and it’s also time for all hell to break loose.

The issue opens to Peter’s response to SpOck declaring that he’s in charge. We see Peter bathed in light, backed up by a group of major Spider-characters. The Superior Spider-Man chides Peter, claiming that after studying the Inheritors for months, Peter’s experience pales in comparison to his, and that his team was faring better off without Pete until he showed up and got some of SpOck’s best men killed. His laughs and condescension are met by a punch straight to his face as we see the two Spider-Men of Earth-616 square off with the other Spiders cheering and betting from the sidelines.

As the two battle, SpOck chides Peter for never going for the kill, never doing what it takes to win, to which Peter declares that he’ll never be ruthless. We see SpOck reply that Peter will indeed be ruthless when he becomes him, and Peter realizes that his opponent thinks that he’s the younger version between the two of them.

Peter reasons that Doc Ock can’t possibly imagine a world where Peter gets his body back, a world where the Superior Spider-Man loses. Peter raises his hands, imploring that SpOck kill him. After a moment of hesitation, thinking that he can’t kill an earlier point of his own timeline lest he cease to exist, Peter knocks him out with a swift kick to the face -claiming his right as their leader.

We cut to Earth-13989, where we find Karn finishing off his latest victim with a 2-pronged trident to the chest; his victim, the great Spider-Wolf of the Lycansphere. Lord Solus isn’t ready to welcome him home yet, as we see him command the weaver to send Karn to another, more challenging world. Morlun enters the room, and the two discuss the three players that have appeared on the Spider-Verse board who have the ability to end the Inheritors reign over reality: the other, the bride and the scion. Lord Solus tells him to gather his brother, and that it’s time for them to crush the Spider’s last hope.

Returning to the safe world, we see a two page spread of the Spiders preparing to move to a location with more things to swing off of. SpOck seems to have accepted Peter as their leader, and they begin to move. Peter tries to contact the other teams: Kaine and Ben don’t respond (because they’re off in Scarlet Spiders issues #1 and #2!) and Spider-Man 2099 hangs up on him, claiming that they’re busy.

Peter concocts a plan to bring a cloaking device to the injured Spider-Man Noir, and assembles a team with Anya and Gwen to find someone they can send behind enemy lines. We see Pete and Gwen share a moment over the fact that they couldn’t save each other in their universes, but will watch over each other this time. He sends the two Ultimate Spider-Men to round up the troops, and after putting Spider-UK in charge hops through a portal.

Back on Earth-13, everyone’s Spider sense goes off as Jennix and Morlun hop through a portal, followed by Lord Solus. The Inheritors leap into battle, quickly finishing off Captain Spider and Spider-Monkey. Cosmic Spider-Man quickly wields his cosmic might and razes Jennix in a blaze of energy. We cut to Earth-802, where the just slain Jennix appears to transfer into a cloned body, and just outside the building in which this occurs, we see the familiar silhouettes of our favorite three Spider-clones.

Spider-UK calls back Pete as the battle of Lord Solus and Cosmic Spider-Man rages on, destroying the Earth around them. Intending to finish it once and for all, Cosmic-S calls upon the power of the enigma force. Lord Solus ends his foe, explaining to everyone that the enigma force is nothing but pure life force, and draining the energy out of Cosmic-S, leaving him a lifeless husk.

With everyone stunned by the events, no one stops Morlun as he knocks May Parker to the ground, and claims his prize. The Scion… Benjamin Parker!
