The Amazing Spider-Man 3 – Making Kraven’s Last Hunt Possible.

facebooktwitterreddit

I’m a huge Kraven’s Last Hunt fan. It took Spider-Man to some incredibly dark areas, it gave Spider-Man the chance to be reborn, it strengthened the Mary Jane and Peter Parker marriage beyond any real depths it had previously been before. It’s all around one perfect story about human nature, and I highly recommend everyone check it out. You can also check my review out here.

While the review is in depth and a great look at the overall story, I’ll skim through it so we can get to the finer aspects of the article. Kraven’s Last Hunt is the story of Kraven the Hunter. He’s a man who uses drugs, and herbs to increase his speed and durability, and the only prize he’s never been able to capture and make into a trophy is Spider-Man, so he travels to New York and attempts it one final time.

[Warning: Spoilers for Kraven’s Last Hunt’ are ahead]

Spider-Man is down in the dumps because he just lost two (or maybe three) friends/one of those was a crook he couldn’t save. He visited their funerals and said his goodbyes but now he’s wondering when death will come for him. If he’ll ever make it back to Mary Jane his new wife.

Mary Jane sits home alone and wonders whether or not Peter will eventually come home from doing his dangerous line of work or whether she’ll have to bury him for doing what he loves by being a superhero. .

To cut a long story short, Kraven, overpowers Spider-Man and drugs him to simulate death and so Kraven can pretend to be Spider-Man, becoming the first and original Superior Spider-Man. whilst Mary Jane assumed Peter is officially dead.

The first order of business on Kraven’s list of things to accomplish is brutally beat down this man who became a rat like monster called Vermin because it took Spider-Man AND Captain America both to fight him and win, while Kraven does it on his own.

The two weeks pass, and Spider-Man driven by the love of his wife Mary Jane digs himself out of the coffin and back to the surface where he confronts Kraven in an epic closing fight fight, to which Kraven refuses to lose having achieved his lifelong dream as well as his life in the form of ultimate unwavering happiness.

So how can this be seen in The AMS universe? Simple – The Sinister Six can introduce Kraven and MJ as characters – At the end of the film Peter can lose people close to him and subsequently propose to MJ. I’d love to see Sony put Peter in College or after at this point or it wouldn’t work.

So all of that plus Kraven’s introduction in the Sinister Six sets the scene for Amazing Spider-Man 3. You can have Kraven angry at the Sinister Six’s defeat so he’d eventually seek revenge against Spider-Man, kicking off the ‘Last Hunt’ storyline. You could even have Harry Osborn use him and twist his ideas and stuff about Spider-Man, and then still be top dog bad guy if you wanted to tie it in to the overlying narrative.

You could have Vermin as the secondary villain, exploring his dark origin as a Hydra experiment or at you can tone it down for the children. However you had kids see Captain Stacy pass away, and also Gwen pass away, so they have the capacity to go a little bit dark and keep that core audience.

Another take could be scrapping ASM3, and scrapping Sinister Six in favor of a Kraven’s Last Hunt movie, make it dark, make it moody. Just make a retelling of the famous story, keep everything up there, don’t tone anything back, and just go for a dark psychological mind bending film. I wish Sony would consider this, but that’s perfectly okay if they don’t.

You could do the AMS movie franchise treatment where you update the ideas, and core concepts. You make them into something worth seeing, and make it different, while keeping the general stuff. It could work.
