Spider-Verse: In Requiem Part Two

facebooktwitterreddit

Following on from Part One of our ‘In Requiem’ series which focused on the deaths of Iron Spider, House of M Spider-Man and others here’s an in depth look at the next Spideys that died in the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends:

Spider-Man, Iceman and Fire star of Earth-1983, the world of the 1980’s cartoon series Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, met defending one of Tony Stark’s inventions from The Beetle. A simpler, lighter world they fought a variety of foes ranging from the bizarre like Videoman, a living videogame character, to known villains like Green Goblin and Loki. They were brutally murdered by Morlun, who only left their dog, Ms. Lion Alive.

Reccomended Veiwing: Amazing Friends episode “The Origin of the Spider-Friends”

Recommended Reading: The 616 versions of the characters have teamed up several times. Notably in Spider-Man Family Featuring Amazing Friends and Amazing X-Men #7.

Spider-Kitty:

In 616, Spider-Kitty was a cat who dreamt of fighting the villainous Venom pigeon. On Earth-999 it seems it was more than just a dream

Spider-Man Unlimited

On Earth-7831 Peter Parker traveled to Counter-Earth, a copy of Earth where evolved animals were the dominant class, after Venom and Carnage kidnapped John Jameson. Joining a group of rebels, he fought against the High Evolutionary’s anti-human rule. The events of the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon also happened here, although whether it’s “the” universe that show took place in is argued.

Suggested Veiwing: Spider-Man Unlimited

Suggested Reading: I can’t say I actually suggest reading, as all the print stories involving this iteration are of dubious quality at best.

Spider-Man Unlimited (1999) #3-5

I feel I should also mention that 616 Spidey wore the costume in Webspinners #13-14, but it’s honestly an awful story.

Peter Parker (MC2)

In this world, Peter and Mary-Jane’s baby was not a stillbirth and instead was kidnapped as part of a plot by Norman Osborn. The baby, named Mayday after Peter’s beloved aunt, was returned by Peter’s clone Kaine, and Osborn was foiled, at the cost of one of Peter’s legs. Giving up superheroing, he became a forensic detective and had a relatively normal life until, Normie Osborn, Harry’s son, became the Green Goblin and tried to exact revenge on Peter, who he blamed for his entire family’s deaths. Mayday took up the mantle of The Spectacular Spider-Girl and saved her father. Peter reluctantly supported his daughter, attempting to guide her so she didn’t make the mistakes he did, and to most of all teach her “With great power comes great responsibility”. He, Mary-Jane, and May’s boyfriend Wes, were all killed by Daemos of The Inheritors.

Suggested Reading: Spider-Girl, the whole series. It’s that good.

Peter Parquagh:

In an attempt to save the world, Captain America traveled back in time and the age of heroes was jump started back in 1602. Peter  Parquagh was spymaster Nicholas Fury’s squire. After the heroes saved the world from Count Otton VonDoom, Peter journyed to the New World, fell in love with Virgina Woolfe and was bit by a Spider. Gaining extraordianry abilities Peter fought to bring justice to his colony. After Virginia’s death at the hands of Norman Osborne, he came back to Europe and became a performer. In a performance at the globe theater, he was murdered by Morlun.
