Gotham Episode Review: What The Little Bird Told Him
So Jack Grubber is the electrocution-er in Gotham, even though no version of the electrocution-er has ever been called Jack Grubber. I feel sorry for Aaron, Grubber’s victim and lackey.
Peter Scolari is an interesting choice for Commissioner Lobe, not someone I ever would have thought of for the role but I’m liking him so far.
Of course Lobe holds Gordon responsible for the mess with Grubber getting out, just as Gordon’s boss, the incompetent director over at Arkham blamed Gordon for everything Grubber did just before he escaped. It’s pretty typical for characters like the director and Lobe to assign blame to the protagonist of a story, and it’s also true that in Gotham most officials are corrupt, incompetent, or both and must find a scape goat to blame everything on.
If you’re familiar with Batman outside of TV and movies than you know that Gordon’s suspicion that Lobe has only come to the precinct to deal with the Grubber case is due to it’s high profile nature is very likely, as this is typical of every mayor of Gotham and all commissioners save for Gordon himself.
Grubber’s actor is very good at playing exceptionally creepy characters.
Donel Logue cracks me up, this is the first time I have ever found myself liking the character of Harvey Bullock. The writers of Gotham give Logue some of the best lines in the show.
At least we finally get a clue as to why Liza is so important to Falcone, we knew she reminded him of someone important but not exactly who she was. Poor Liza really didn’t know what she was signing up for when she agreed to work for Fish, though after what she did to her competition I can’t feel too bad for her.
Aha! Buchinsky is the last name of two characters who took on the mantle of the Electrocutioner, Unnamed Buchinsky and later Lester Buchinsky.
I really think I’m right about Edward Nygma, his infatuation with Ms. Kringle is going to lead to his turning to crime and becoming the Riddler. He will keep trying to woo her and eventually when she rejects him forcefully enough he will snap. We get a little hint of that in ‘What the Little Bird Told Him’.
Gordon and Bullock are starting to make a really good team, I can see why they would still be working together years later when Gordon is the Commissioner.
Fish is very confident in her plan, but I don’t think anyone should underestimate Don Falcone, he is Don for a reason.
Cory Micheal Smith as Edward Nygma is soo cute! Is that weird? I find his quirks to be adorable.
I just cannot get on board with Gordon and Thompson, it just doesn’t make sense to me.
Poor Penguin has it really rough in this episode. I feel kinda bad for him. Although it’s quite funny to see Maroni’s muscle man carrying Penguin around thrown over his shoulder. He’s walking quite the dangerous line, and if he’s not careful he could pay for it.
Barbara Kean, I can’t stand her, at all. Of course her parents seem like they’re a big part of why she’s so hard to like. I’m almost sympathetic to her after seeing her parents.
Zasz is a very different person on Gotham, I’m hoping that, like Nygma, he will snap at some point and be the killer we all know and fear.
I have to wonder if what Buchinsky does in this episode with electricity is in fact possible, it would be both cool and terrifying if it were possible.
I was really expecting to see that Nygma was also awake and well after Buchinsky’s attack, since it was his idea to wear the rain galoshes in the first place. What an anti-climatic stand off with Gordon and Buchinsky, I just had to laugh, especially at the little noise Buchinsky made.
Then I couldn’t stop laughing because Bullock keeps repeating “you think you’ve been careful so far?”
Fish’s sympathy for Falcone is her undoing in this plan, If she had used Liza to kill Falcone she would be in charge now.
Seriously! Commissioner Gordon and Dr. Thompkins just don’t make any sense to me! Why make up a relationship with Leslie Thompkins when Sarah Essen is already in his life!?
This was a good episode but I really missed Cat, Bruce and Alfred.
