All-New X-Men #34 Recap
By Daniel Wood
All-New X-Men #33 ended with Miles Morales and Earth-616 Jean Grey stumbling upon the home of the Ultimate X-Men who didn’t look too happy to see them. So surely #34 opens with Spider-Man and Phoenix battling the other X-Men to escape and then eventually reunite with their friends?
Actually no, the issue starts with Miles Morales trying to explain the situation as everyone else calmly talks and speculates. Both universes’ Jean Greys looking into each others minds, we get a two-page spread of their thoughts and memories before they both faint. Spider-Man once again tries to explain himself, but the mutants tell him not to worry, they’re going to figure this out.
We then jump to Atlanta Georgia where Bobby Drake/Iceman is still fighting the giant Mole Man creature. Iceman is struggling to use his powers because of the heat, however he uses the moisture inside the creature to freeze it’s insides finally defeating it. However the police turn up and attempt to arrest Bobby.
We then cut back to Angel and X-23 in what they thought was their school but is actually the place where mutants were created in the Ultimate universe. Laura and Warren discuss whether they’re in a different universe or reality has been warped by the little girl. They then consider that they might be stuck in this ‘new’ world.
Heading over to Latveria we see that Hank McCoy is having dinner with Doctor Doom and Hank is telling him all about what happened and how he got there. Doom confesses that he drugged Beast’s food with a truth serum and then presses him about his X-Men being from another time. Hank tells Doom about his team’s situation before revealing feelings for Jean Grey. Doom then tells Hank he’s going to help him with is work.
Bobby is now in the back of a police car where he discovers that the police seem to be harboring a resentment towards mutants. They tell him to keep his head down with the ‘mutant stuff’. This angers Bobby causing him to use the car’s air conditioning to cause a snow flurry inside allowing him to escape.
Jean Grey wakes up in Cerebro as Ultimate Jean Grey meets her. Ultimate Jean Grey explains that they’re in Cerebro because they need to find the young girl that sent them there and they also need to find her friends, referencing news stories of their antics so far. The two Jeans then discuss their different lives and hug.
We see a brief scene of Spider-Man and the other Ultimate X-Men around a table with the X-Men staring at Spider-Man in silence before we go back to the two Jeans in Cerebro. Ultimate Jean Grey straps 616 Jean into the helmet telling her that she’s the better psychic. They reveal that Miles has a crush on Jean before Cerebro is activated and they see something ‘unreal’
