7. The Eraser

This guy would be higher up my list if it wasn’t for the fact that both Grant Morrison and Neil Gaiman remembered him and used him in separate stories a few years ago. Of course Morrison made it seem like Batman had simply dreamed or hallucinated him, which is probably fitting.

The Eraser is a great case of a bad guy who was actually onto something good but ruined it by taking his gimmick to literally. Lenny Fiasco decided he would help other criminals “erase” the evidence that could connect them to their crimes for a 20 percent cut of whatever they made. That’s good thinking! Then he decided to dress like a No. 2 pencil and wear a helmet that helped him get rid of fingerprints and such. Sorry Lenny, but that’s where you crossed the line.

Without that last part, the Eraser is a villain that could fit quite comfortable into Gotham. For instance, Fish Mooney is already very skilled at covering her tracks, but a guy like Lenny on the payroll could never hurt. Alas, the crooks on the TV series already have the police mostly in their back pockets, so they really don’t even need to worry about destroying evidence. Maybe the Eraser would be put out of business due to a lack of a market for his skills.

I’m also kind of sad that the image you see above is just sensationalizing for the sake of a comic book cover, because if this dude could actually erase people from existence with that helmet, just think of the fun Morrison could have had with him. Seems like a missed opportunity there.
