Spider-Man 2099 to be replaced by Secret Wars 2099
By Daniel Wood
Why must all of the good things get taken away before their time? Why, Why, Why? Okay so this is clearly a late reaction but we’re reporting on it just on the off-chance that there are people out there that only get their Spider-Man news from us, but here’s the news just in case you haven’t read it anywhere else! Peter David and Will Sliney’s Spider-Man 2099 is ending!
I know what you’re thinking ‘What the hell!’ or something to that effect right? It’s only just started Miguel O’Hara was having interesting interactions with Tiberius Stone, Tempest and Liz Allan and then suddenly BAM! No more Spider-Man 2099 because Marvel want to do a company-wide massive reboot event combining the Ultimate and Standard universe into one Battleworld in what will basically be Secret Wars 2!
Whilst this is a huge blow to Spider-Man fans, it’s not all bad news for fans of the David/Sliney creative team as they’re taking on a new title featuring the Avengers from 2099! The title will be called ‘Secret Wars 2099’ and it features futuristic versions of the Avengers as well as a female Captain America which is pretty neat! Here’s the front cover!
The Avengers of 2099 are going to be a little bit more corporate than previous versions as it turns out that they actually work for Alchemax. As you can see the front cover is lacking a certain Spider-Man but hopefully Miguel O’Hara will be part of the team when the comic gets going!
As I said it’s a massive shame that Peter David’s return to Spider-Man 2099, the character he invented way-back-when, has been cut short. And by cut short, I mean that I feel it could’ve gone on a lot longer as we were still really getting into the swing of things with Miguel. Damn you Marvel! Damn you!
