31. Iron Man – Stark asks Stane how he solved a problem with the armor

There’s nothing quite like seeing a super villain done in by his own overconfidence. In the case of Obadiah Stane, it was his belief that the Iron Monger was stronger and more powerful than Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit.

He wasn’t wrong about that, but Tony had already pushed his armor to its limits to find out what it could and couldn’t do. Those original missteps paid off in a big way during the climactic scene in Iron Man, when Tony decides to take his fight with Iron Monger a lot higher in the atmosphere than Obadiah was probably expecting.

It looks like Tony is running away, but there’s a method to his madness. Right after being caught by Iron Monger, who brags about how his suit is more advanced in every way, Iron Man asks him a question: “How’d you solve the icing problem?”

As his power cuts out, Stane is dead in the water … er, air, and after Stark advises him that he might want to look into it, one love tap on the head is all it takes to send the armored villain hurtling back down toward the ground. That’s a lesson he probably wouldn’t forget if he had lived past the end of the movie. Ah, well.
