25. Thor – The Destroyer arrives on Earth

The Frost Giants are cool enemies for Thor and his fellow Asgardians. Even if the first Thor film just had them and Loki as antagonists, it would have been fine.

You know what’s really bad news, though? The Destroyer, an enchanted suit of armor that is made of a mystic metal and needs to be animated by the spirit of a living being, at least in the comics. Hey, we actually got to see it show up, and the result did not disappoint.

Though the movie Destroyer doesn’t seem to need any life force to do Loki’s bidding, maybe the God of Mischief’s abilities have something to do with that. In any case, not only is the armor huge and physically imposing, it can fire some serious heat or energy beams, making a total mess of the town in which Thor and his friends are holed up. I did mention that Thor is powerless at this point, right?

The Warriors Three give it their best shot, but they simply aren’t a match for the unbridled fury of the Destroyer. Sif nearly gets fried, which definitely would have been tragic. No, it takes the power of the God of Thunder to stop the it, and getting it back is another great moment in and of itself. In any case, when I think of all the things I was pleasantly surprised to see in the MCU, seeing the Destroyer tear things up ranks right up there.
