21. The Avengers – Hawkeye takes out some Chitauri without even looking

Don’t even get me started about how badly Hawkeye got the shaft in The Avengers. I could (and have) write whole columns about how he’s really been done no justice in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, mostly because he spends a big chunk of the movie under the control of the bad guys, helping Loki carry out his schemes.

After Black Widow literally knocks some sense into him, Hawkeye doesn’t have much time to show off how much of a badass he is, but the Battle of New York at least gives him a chance to show his skills. From his perch atop a building, he’s able to act as the eyes for the whole team, advising Iron Man on how to out-maneuver the Chitauri on their flying chariots. Plus, we actually get to see him put his unmatched archery skills to use for good instead of evil.

None of his feats are as awesome as his no-look shot that finds its mark, blowing up one of those chariots. Even if you’re new to Marvel and didn’t understand how this guy with a bow can hang with the rest of the team, this one scene shows why he belongs.

Okay, maybe that doesn’t quite do it on its own, but it’s undeniably cool, and after everything else that Hawkeye has to go through, you can at least give him this one.
