6. Iron Man 3 – An unexpected rescue

This is probably one of those rare moments where panic attacks really benefited someone. Unable to sleep due to his experiences during the Battle of New York, Tony Stark immerses himself in his work, creating various Iron Man suits.

One, in particular, is the Mark XLII, a suit with the ability to be summoned via Tony’s thoughts. When the Mandarin launches an attack on Tony’s Malibu estate, the initial rocket explosion launches both Tony and Pepper Potts back. Still in mid-air and seeing where Pepper’s trajectory is headed, Tony mentally commands his armor to assemble itself around Pepper. Just as the final piece clicks into place, Pepper safely crashes into a concrete wall.

Tony, briefly knocked unconscious, awakens to find a large piece of debris about to fall on him. Pepper, still in the Iron Man suit, quickly shields Tony from being crushed.
