Did You Know Batman was a College Dropout?
By Skip Harvey
Yep. That’s right. According to Christopher Nolan, director of the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman dropped out of Princeton to figure out how to fight crime. At yesterday’s graduation ceremony for the university Nolan gave a speech confirming that Bruce Wayne didn’t quite make it as far as the senior class had.
"No one has pointed out the most important thing about Bruce Wayne, which is, yes, he attended Princeton, but he didn’t graduate. So as of tomorrow, you are all already better than Batman."
Well, I don’t know about all that. The graduates did avoid the kind of Study Abroad program that lands an heir to a vast fortune in a Tibetan prison, though.
If you remember, in Batman Begins Alfred asks Master Bruce how he enjoyed going to Princeton. Wayne’s response is ‘I like it fine. They just don’t feel the same way.’
Still, the university has no problem claiming Batman as one of their own. Said archivist Dan Linke:
"I have something [Nolan] doesn’t. I have Batman’s alumni records. They provide incontrovertible proof of a long disputed legend: Bruce Wayne was training an elite corps of Princeton alumni, known as the Mighty Tigers, to help him with his fight for justice."
Yeah, I’d probably claim him, too.
