5. Spider-Slayers
Pros: Even people in the general public who don’t know the Spider-Slayers from the comics should easily be able to comprehend the idea of robots specifically designed to counter Spider-Man — and depending on the events and outcome of Captain America: Civil War, some paranoia about super-powered heroes might be even more understandable. Their upgradeable nature means you could have them evolve over the course of the movie if you want. There’s even a juicy human role for a top notch actor in Alistair Smythe, the son of the robots’ original creator and a full on lunatic in his own right.
Cons: Some of what we wrote about Morlun applies here too, in the sense that the Spider-Slayers feel like something we’d see down the road instead of as soon as we see this new Spidey for the first time. If you want to work Spencer Smythe into the equation, it almost demands that Alistair and his creations would be looking for revenge for something that would need to be set up first. The name of the robots is kind of generic, and from a design standpoint, it would be easy to make them look cool, but just as easy to make a bad mistake that could mess up the whole film.
