Newspaper Reporter

Job held by: Clark Kent (Superman)

In his secret identity as Clark Kent, Superman has had perhaps the most famous job in comic book history. Who doesn’t know that the Man of Steel is a “mild-mannered reporter” when he’s not leaping tall buildings in a single bound?

There’s more to it than that, though. It’s easier to be cynical about journalists in the 21st Century for many reasons, but Clark’s job also two of the pillars on which he built his heroic code. Kent was still in search of truth and justice, just in a different way.

It’s not like he didn’t change with the times either. For a time in the 1970s, Clark left the Daily Planet and became a TV news anchor at WGBS, reporting to Morgan Edge instead of his more famous boss, Perry White. Somehow writers always managed to circle him back to newspapers, even in the current decade. Until the last paper is delivered, there’s something timeless about Superman working for one.

Very few super heroes have to worry about competing with their love interests while in their secret identities, but Clark certainly always had to hustle to keep up with Lois Lane. Yet another reason to be impressed with his talent as a newsman.
