I know. Lawyers have a negative connotation in many aspects of life, whether it’s the ambulance-chasers you see hawking their services in TV commercials or the folks who help make health care so expensive by forcing physicians to pay an arm and a leg in malpractice insurance.

As someone who was raised by attorneys, I can attest that many of them help make the real world a better place, and our two-for-one special here has done exactly that in the comics. Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters have worked tirelessly to defend the rights of those who have nowhere else to turn, while also taking on plenty of cases too bizarre for regular lawyers.

You also have to be a pretty smart cookie and a determined worker to get through law school at most universities, so let’s hear it for the brains and work ethic of this pair as well. Various comic book writers have been able to wring drama (in Matt’s case) or humor (for Jen, most of the time) out of their time in the courtroom, so regardless of your own personal views on lawyers, you have to admit that for a hero to have that job in his or her civilian identity really is pretty cool.
