A Labor Day Tribute: 10 Cool Jobs Held By Super Heroes
By Nick Tylwalk
Professional Skier
Job held by: Jean-Paul Beaubier
With all due respect to Kickers Inc. and NFL SuperPro, there aren’t many super heroes who live double lives as pro athletes. Jean-Paul Beaubier did, overcoming the tragic deaths of both his biological and adopted parents to become a world class skier before he even turned 21.
In case you’re thinking that possessing the mutant power to channel kinetic energy to move at superhuman speeds might give him an unfair advantage, you’re right. The cool twist to Northstar’s back story is that he became an outstanding skier even before his mutant powers kicked in full blast, it’s never been 100 percent clear whether he was using them to help in his achievements or not. I’d like to think not, but he did have to forfeit all of his skiing medals in a development eerily foretelling the PED scandals of modern sports.
Regardless, there’s something about being a skiing champion and a super hero that just goes together like peanut butter and chocolate. The former would definitely prepare you for the latter as far as being in the spotlight with the general public, as you can see in the image above.
I can’t think of any other super hero that earned his or her keep this way, making it one of the more unique jobs in mainstream comics.
