Marvel Confirms Secret Wars Will End On January 13
By Nick Tylwalk
No more delays or extra issues. Marvel’s big event of 2015 is finally coming to a definitive end in early 2016.
It’s not really news now since we were one of numerous outlets that reported it last week, but Marvel made it official today with a press release. Secret Wars #9, by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic, will bring the long-running epic to an end on January 13.
Even better, it will apparently still contain some surprises despite the fact that comics set months after the completion of the story have been in our hands since early October.
“Marvel fans can rest easy knowing that at long last Secret Wars #9 is off to the printer, and will be in their hot little hands January 13th,” Marvel SVP, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said in the press release. “I can say with some confidence that it’s a finale that no reader who’s been enjoying the ride so far will be disappointed in, and is in no way spoiled by any of the events that have transpired in our assorted All-New, All-Different Era titles so far. Don’t believe me? Well, you’ll just have to pick up a copy for yourself and see!”
That sounds like a challenge of some sort, but while it’s clear not all fans agree with us, we’ve been enthralled enough with the story to not be too upset that it’s taken this long to tell. Here’s what Marvel says awaits in the final installment:
"Battleworld teeters on the brink. Armies march against God Doom. What will become of this strange patchwork planet? Who lives? Who dies? One thing is for certain – nobody will come back from Battleworld the same. Be there for the explosive conclusion and the genesis of the new Marvel Universe in SECRET WARS #9 – on sale January 13th!"
We’re game. And we’ll have a review of Secret Wars #9 up the same day it releases. Time to see this one through to its conclusion.
