New Suicide Squad Synopsis Revealed Through Merch Descriptions

Sometimes we get our superhero movie tidbits from some unorthodox channels. In the case of Suicide Squad, the latest arrives from some advance solicitations for statues based on characters from the film that are on the way from DC Collectibles next July.

(The statues are of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and the Joker, by the way, and cost $150 each. No pics yet though.)

Here’s the Suicide Squad synopsis that accompanied that solicitation:

"It feels good to be bad … Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?"

Sounds about right. Even though the film version of the team will vary just a bit in terms of composition and mission from its comic book inspiration, that description is promising in the way it cuts to the core of the original concept. Waller knows that supervillains have the unique skills needed to fight certain foes, and that they’re expendable. But can they be depended on when things don’t go according to plan, and what will they do when they decide they may not want to be a part of the team any more?

With all the other superhero movie trailers dropping as of late, fans are holding on tight for one from this movie too. However we might have to wait just a little longer, as Suicide Squad is due a little later in 2016 than the others, hitting theaters on August 5.
