The Various Incarnations of Lex Luthor, Jr.

We already thought one Lex Luthor was enough, and now he has sons (emphasis on the plural).  Well, technically, in the comics, these sons were different people from different universes.  In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Lex Luthor, Sr. is said to be dead and gone.  His legacy has been passed onto Lex Luthor, Jr. who’s currently trying to put his own stamp on the world.  Knowing that the writers might have a few tricks up their sleeves, Lex Luthor, Jr. may not be who we assume.

Did You Know?

  • The first appearance of a Lex Luthor, Jr. was in Action Comics #544 (June 1983).  Lex Luthor fathered him with an alien woman named Ardora, who was from the planet Lexor.  Lexor was a planet whose citizens viewed Lex Luthor as a god due to him saving their civilization.  The infant Lex Luthor, Jr. would later die when Lexor is annihilated.  However, all continuity of this history would be wiped away after the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
  • Alexander Luthor, Jr. was the son of Earth-Three’s Lex Luthor, a hero, and Lois Lane.  Alexander was sent to Earth-One by his parents.  Arriving at the headquarters of the Justice League, Alexander gained powers that allowed him to control matter and anti-matter.  Alexander would later be a key catalyst who initiates the events seen in Infinite Crisis.
  • Lex Luthor II was a clone of Lex Luthor.  The original Luthor had, for years, worn a kryptonite ring to ward off Superman.  Because of this prolonged exposure, Luthor developed terminal cancer.  After faking his own death in a plane crash, Luthor had his brain inserted into a cloned body.  Luthor then reemerged as his own son.  The ruse would be short-lived because his cloned body started to deteriorate.
