Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice marks the live-action debut of the Dark Knight appearing in the same film as the Man of Steel. Although this is new and revolutionary for the movies, it’s been a standard in the comics and animation realms for decades.

- In the comics, the first time Superman and Batman appeared in the same image was in World’s Best Comics #1 (Summer 1941).
- World’s Best Comics #1 had an identical format to New York World’s Fair Comics (1940) which featured Superman, Batman, and Robin. However, Superman and Batman and Robin appeared in separate stories.
- The second issue of World’s Best Comics underwent a name change to the more familiar moniker World’s Finest Comics. This was due to DC receiving a cease and desist letter from Better Publications, Inc., who had been publishing a similarly titled print called Best Comics.
- Collectively, Superman and Batman are sometimes referred to as World’s Finest.
