In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Tao Okamoto plays Lex Luthor, Jr.’s ever loyal Mercy Graves. Though not dressed like a chauffeur or a bodyguard, this version of the character probably still has some tricks up her sleeve to pay homage to the character that made her debut in animation.

- Created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, Mercy Graves first appeared in the episode “A Little Piece of Home” in Superman: The Animated Series — an animated television show that was set in the initial DC Animated Universe.
- Her first comic book appearance was in Superman Adventures #1 (November 1996), a comic book based on the animated series.
- The character proved to be popular and went on to make appearances in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series.
- Mercy Graves was to appear in the unfinished Superman Lives film.
- The character of Tess Mercer — played by Cassidy Freeman — in the television series Smallville was a conglomeration of Mercy Graves and Eve Teschmacher, Lex Luthor’s live-in girlfriend from Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), who was played by Valerie Perrine.
- This will be the second time Mercy Graves will appear as Asian. The first time was in the 2004 – 2008 animated series The Batman.
