Dick Grayson

Early in the production of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, an image of Dick Grayson’s tombstone was released online, but quickly taken down.  There was some fan uproar about Dick Grayson being dead because … well … it’s the wrong Robin to be dead.  However, I have my own suspicions as to why Dick has a tombstone.  Could the film be drawing inspiration from modern DC storylines?

Did You Know?

  • Dick Grayson, the first and most famous Robin, was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson.  He made his first appearance in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940).
  • Dick Grayson make his first appearance as Nightwing in Tales of the Teen Titans #44 (July 1984).
  • Dick Grayson briefly took on the mantle of Batman and made his first appearance as the Dark Knight in Robin #0 (October 1994).
  • In current stories, Dick Grayson has faked his death.  The only other person who originally knew about this was Bruce Wayne / Batman, who helped Dick form a plan to become a mole in a spy organization known as Spyral.  In Spyral, Dick is known as Agent 37.  His first appearance as Agent 37 was in Grayson #1 (September 2014).
