Early in the production of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, an image of Dick Grayson’s tombstone was released online, but quickly taken down. There was some fan uproar about Dick Grayson being dead because … well … it’s the wrong Robin to be dead. However, I have my own suspicions as to why Dick has a tombstone. Could the film be drawing inspiration from modern DC storylines?

- Dick Grayson, the first and most famous Robin, was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson. He made his first appearance in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940).
- Dick Grayson make his first appearance as Nightwing in Tales of the Teen Titans #44 (July 1984).
- Dick Grayson briefly took on the mantle of Batman and made his first appearance as the Dark Knight in Robin #0 (October 1994).
- In current stories, Dick Grayson has faked his death. The only other person who originally knew about this was Bruce Wayne / Batman, who helped Dick form a plan to become a mole in a spy organization known as Spyral. In Spyral, Dick is known as Agent 37. His first appearance as Agent 37 was in Grayson #1 (September 2014).
