Supergirl Season 1 Episode 9 Synopsis: Blood Bonds

Sorry, but I can’t call episode 9 of Supergirl the mid-season premiere. Why? Because the series never really went on hiatus. It aired its last new episode on December 14, and now is set to be the first superhero show to return to the air on January 4. That’s not really a break as much as it was a pause for the holidays.

Now that those are behind us, we can get back to the newly Martian Manhunter-enhanced adventures of Supergirl. Even with J’onn as a powerful new ally, it’s not likely Kara’s life is going to suddenly become simpler. Cat Grant alone can make sure of that, especially since she’s deduced Kara’s secret.

As we head into this week’s new episode, “Blood Bonds,” it appears that Kara will be tackling that particular headache with a classic strategy: deny, deny, deny. Here’s what CBS has to say in its official synopsis for Supergirl episode 9:

"KARA MUST FIND A WAY TO RESCUE HANK FROM ASTRA’S HUSBAND AS SHE TRIES TO REFUTE CAT’S ALLEGATIONS THAT SHE’S SUPERGIRL, ON “SUPERGIRL,” MONDAY, JAN. 4 – With Astra in captivity at the DEO, her husband, Non (Chris Vance), captures Hank, leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. Also, Kara continues to refute Cat’s allegations that she is Supergirl, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Jan. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM) on the CBS Television Network."

Ah yes, nothing like some good old family drama — though when your uncle is also a Kryptonian military man and scientist, you’ve probably got more to worry about from said drama than most. It’ll be interesting to see how Non is able to capture Hank, er, J’onn, as I’m assuming this synopsis was written before the big reveal. What are we supposed to call Martian Manhunter now anyway?

We’ll let all of you figure that out for yourselves. All we know is that especially with no other superhero shows on the air right now, we’ll definitely be watching Supergirl on Monday, January 4 to find out what “Blood Bonds” has in store.
