Kevin Smith Will Direct A Season 2 Episode Of The Flash
By Nick Tylwalk
Generally speaking, only the most hardcore fans of superhero TV shows know who’d directing the episodes. But if the director in question is famous enough, that could easily change — and an awfully well-known, comic book-loving personality is going to be lending his talents to The Flash before the end of Season 2.
As revealed today at the Television Critics Association press tour and reported by our corporate sibling, Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Smith will direct an upcoming episode of The Flash. Smith’s episode is supposed to air in May, meaning it will be during the stretch run of Season 2, and could possibly even be the season finale.
Smith really needs no introduction to comic book fans, as he’s written comic for both DC and Marvel — including characters like Daredevil and Green Arrow — owns a comic book shop in New Jersey and has been attached to various genre films in their early stages of development. As a director, he made his name on movies like Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma, but he has dabbled in TV before, with EW pointing out that he was behind the camera for the pilot episode of Reaper.
The Flash seems like a perfect fit for Smith’s sensibilities, as it combines a healthy respect for its source material with a tone that has its fair share of drama but also allows for plenty of humorous moments. It will be interesting to see if The CW promotes the fact that he’s directing an episode of the series, as it’s something the network has never done to date.
It’s also never had a name like this doing the honors. We’ll be sure to update you on the exact Season 2 episode that will get the Smith treatment, but we do know we’ll be one step closer to it when The Flash returns from its winter break on Tuesday, January 19.
