Chris Pine: I Was Never Offered Green Lantern
By Nick Tylwalk
Unless you count yourself among the crowd that doesn’t like the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot flicks, you’re probably already a fan of what actor Chris Pine brings to sci-fi as Captain James T. Kirk. He’ll also be the male lead opposite Gal Gadot’s Amazon warrior in Wonder Woman, though rumors originally had him connected to a bigger DC Extended Universe role.
Specifically, Pine was supposedly being considered to play Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern solo movie, the upcoming two-part Justice League extravaganza or some combination of the two. However the actor debunked those rumors in a recent interview with Collider.
During the press day for The Finest Hours, Pine made it very clear that he was never in talks to wear a power ring.
"No. I was not offered Green Lantern ever, I’ve never had a conversation about Green Lantern."
That doesn’t mean Warner Bros. never considered Pine for the role, just that it never got to the point where it actively spoke to him. Considering the plans for the Emerald Crusader remain somewhat up in the air, at least in comparison to other members of the Justice League, perhaps that shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise.
Now the question is how much Pine we’ll see in the DCEU. Collider also points out that Wonder Woman is supposed to be a period piece, with Diana first encountering the rest of the world back around the time of World War I. If Pine’s Steve Trevor is around back then, he won’t be popping up in Justice League without one hell of a good plot device.
