Spider-Man #1 Preview: Miles Morales Comes To The Marvel Universe
By Nick Tylwalk
For more than four years, Miles Morales was the Spider-Man of the Ulitmate Universe. Now that there’s no such thing any more, he’s not hanging up his webs. Morales has already arrived in the Marvel Universe in the pages of All-New, All-Different Avengers, and he’ll soon be getting the solo spotlight as well in Spider-Man #1.
Conveniently, we’ve got a preview of that very issue right here. Writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli — the same team that created Morales back in 2011 — reunite to tell his brand new adventures in a brand new place. For him, anyway.
Here’s the pitch from Marvel:
"Sure, he’s been doing the super hero thing for a while now, but following the events of Secret Wars, Miles finds himself a full-fledged member of the Marvel U. Swinging next to Iron Man, Captain America and Thor as a member of the Avengers and patrolling the Big Apple’s rooftops as NYC’s own Spider-Man! But it’s not all fun and games. A lot has transpired in the eight months since Secret Wars and an entire new universe awaits him – friend and foe alike. Plus, his grades are in the toilet."
I like how that, “Plus, his grades are in the toilet,” bit is just kind of thrown in for good measure at the end! With Peter Parker now the CEO of a globe-spanning tech conglomerate, if you want to read about a younger Spider-Man who fights crime but still has some of the problems the rest of us face, this is the series for you.
Check out some of these preview pages from Pichelli and get hyped.
Spider-Man #1 arrives in stores and on digital on February 3, and it comes bearing variant covers by Michael Cho, Skottie Young and Mark Bagley, as well as a Hip-Hop Variant by Adi Granov. Don’t miss the Marvel Universe solo debut of the new Spidey on the block.
