Suicide Squad director has lots of praise for Jared Leto as the newest Joker

Suicide Squad is coming our way later this year, courtesy of director David Ayer. A big part of that new Suicide Squad film is the Joker, played by Jared Leto. Leto inherits a role played by hollywood heavyweights like Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. How does he compare?

Ayer claims that Leto compares more than favorably, laying on the praise and calling him the “King of Planet Joker”. Granted, Ayer has every reason in the universe to not bag on Leto’s performance, but it’s not like Leto isn’t an accomplished actor, and if Ayer wasn’t big on his performance, he could be less effusive in his praise. While you may not be a fan of the look, you’ll probably be a fan of Leto’s performance in Suicide Squad.

Ayer also had high praise for Ben Affleck as Batman, who thanks to some videos leaked earlier this year, we know is in Suicide Squad in some fashion.

"We made him fight. He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world."

And speaking of Ben Affleck, while he couldn’t get into any specifics about Suicide Squad, he was really impressed with what he saw:

"It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling."

Hopefully all that high praise isn’t a bunch of hot air. I don’t think it is honestly. But we’ll have to wait until Suicide Squad hits theaters this August to find out for sure.
