By Steve Lam
Legends of Tomorrow premiered last week with the episode “Pliot: Part 1.” We saw the apocalyptic future brought on by Vandal Savage, and Rip Hunter, Time Master, taking action to stop him. Traveling to 2016, Rip recruits eight misfit heroes and villains: Ray Palmer (The Atom), Sara Lance, (White Canary), Kendra Saunders, (Hawkgirl), Carter Hall, (Hawkman), Martin Stein (Firestorm), Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Firestorm), Leonard Snart (Captain Cold), and Mick Rory (Heatwave).

With Chronos, a bounty hunter sent by the Time Masters, chasing after them, the eight discover that they are not the legends Rip has claimed them to be. In fact, they were chosen due to their insignificance to the timeline, thereby having very little impact if things were to go wrong. On top of that revelation, the team also finds out why Rip is so adamant in hunting down Vandal — the evil immortal personally executed Rip’s wife and son.
Though saddened by the fact that their current destinies have no great meaning, the team makes a decision to control their own fates by stopping Vandal Savage and, in the process, make their own futures.

Waverider takes them in their travels through time. Here’s the official synopsis for “Pilot: Part 2”:
"“Pilot, Part 2” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LSV) (HDTV) STEIN VS. STEIN — Tipped off to Vandal Savage’s (guest star Casper Crump) whereabouts, the team infiltrates a munitions deal with Professor Stein (Victor Garber) as their leader. Surrounded by some of the toughest criminals in the world, things quickly go from bad to worse when Savage realizes they don’t belong there. A massive fight ensues and a piece of the Atom’s (Brandon Routh) suit falls off and into the wrong hands, which could potentially cause disastrous consequences in the future. Stein realizes the best way to retrieve the missing piece is to contact a brilliant man – his younger self. He, Sara (Caity Lotz) and Jax (Franz Drameh) head off in search of young Martin Stein (guest star Graeme McComb), much to Rip’s (Arthur Darvill) consternation. Meanwhile, Snart (Wentworth Miller) and Rory (Dominic Purcell) plan to steal a key element in defeating Savage but still unsure of his new teammates, Ray (Brandon Routh) demands to come along on the mission. Carter (guest star Falk Hentschel) helps Kendra (Ciara Renée) remember something vital. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Phil Klemmer & Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg (#102). Original airdate 1/28/2016."
