Gotham Returns With A Cold-Hearted Villain in its Winter Premiere!

We are just two weeks out from the return of Gotham. And one thing has been made perfectly clear, Mr. Freeze is in town and ready to wreak some icy havoc. Now we weren’t exactly sure when he would be showing up, but apparently it’s going to be in the first episode back, appropriately titled “Mr. Freeze”.

Here’s the synopsis for Mr. Freeze:

"Penguin takes a hit for Galavan’s murder, but doesn’t let Gordon off easily. Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers."

The synopsis obviously raises some interesting questions about the premiere. Sounds like for once Gordon isn’t going to be busted down to security guard or traffic cop again, but then he’s also hugely in Penguin’s debt, and given the state of their “friendship”, Penguin may be looking to collect on that in a big way sooner rather than later.

But also, at least from the synopsis, it sounds like Victor Fries doesn’t start off as fully formed Mr. Freeze. It’s pretty obvious (at least in my opinion) why he’s snatching bodies. It’s in order to experiment on them in order to save his wife from her terminal disease. How exactly these bodies help out with that we will find out in this episode. And while he may not start the episode in his trademark cold suit, given that the title of Gotham’s return episode is “Mr. Freeze”, odds are we will see him in it by the end of that episode. Gotham returns February 29th on Fox!
