Suicide Squad: Viola Davis Thought Jared Leto Was Crazy

Suicide Squad’s Viola Davis talks working on the set with Jared Leto

We’ve heard a lot about how in-character  Jared Leto reportedly was on the set of Suicide Squad. He sent weird gifts, he stayed in character the entire time on and off camera, he intimidated fellow cast members. None of this was seen as as a bad thing, just a note on how seriously Leto seemed to be taking the role.

Now Suicide Squad co-star Viola Davis, who is playing Amanda Waller has chimed in on her experience with Leto as well. Most of it is stuff we have heard before, but there is one or two new tidbits:

"The Joker, he did some bad things. Jared Leto did. He gave some really horrific gifts. He had henchmen that would come into the rehearsal room and the henchmen came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, then he walked out. And that was our introduction into Jared Leto. Now I’m terrified as a person thinking ‘Is he crazy?’ but the second part was ‘Oh shit! I got to have my stuff together.’ You talk about commitment and then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive in a box, she screamed, and then she kept it."

Again, not much we haven’t heard before (though this is the first I’ve heard of Leto having henchman dump a dead pig on a table), but it’s always good to get another cast member’s perspective. We’ll see if that method acting paid off and made everybody bring their A game when Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th.
