Gotham: See Ben McKenzie Try On Mustaches

What will Ben McKenzie’s future mustache look like on Gotham?

One of the trademarks of Comissioner Jim Gordon is his mustache. It’s a very specific trait that while it has not been in every incarnation of the character, has been a fixture of most versions. Ben McKenzie, who plays young Detective Jim Gordon on Gotham, has yet to sport a mustache, but McKenzie has explained several times that he feels he needs to “earn the mustache” and it is likely something he will grow as he ages assuming Gotham last enough season for it to happen.

But recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel suggested McKenzie try on several fake mustaches in order to get an idea of what it might look like. As you can expect, the results were pretty amusing, which you can see for yourself in the video below:

Ben Mckenzie picked arguably the most normal stache of the bunch. I think the bit would’ve been a little better if he tried on several of the mustaches and the winner was decided by audience. Also, while Ben McKenzie claims he needs to grow into the mustache, his character of Jim Gordon might actually have to earn it, as he is in an incredibly dark place right now he needs to crawl out of in order to be the incorruptible Commissioner Gordon we are familiar with. One thing is for sure, if you want to see Ben McKenzie sporting a real mustache, keep watching Gotham when it returns on Fox February 29th!
