Could Deadpool Host SNL?
By Nick Tylwalk
Right now, Deadpool is on top of the world. He’s already shattered box office records, his movie is set to finish No. 1 again this weekend, and he’s basically the toast of the town. So why not really turn him loose and, say, host Saturday Night Live?
We don’t mean have Ryan Reynolds host SNL either, though he’s done so before. There’s actually a petition on Change.org asking Lorne Michaels to allow Reynolds to appear on the show as Deadpool, and at the time of this post, it already has more than 68,000 signatures.
As Bleeding Cool points out, there’s a precedent for a fictional character playing host. Paul Reuebens did the job in-character as Pee-Wee Herman back in 1985, and after 30-plus years, the time seems ripe for it to happen again.
In the meantime, Reynolds has released a video response that explains why Deadpool won’t be asked to go live on Saturday night any time soon, one that perfectly skewers Kanye West’s recent backstage rant while also retroactively inserting the Merc With a Mouth into the show’s history — and as comic book fans know, no one does that quite like Deadpool.
You can watch the entire gag here, but be warned: foul language abounds, and this is definitely NSFW.
If anything, this just makes Deadpool hosting SNL an even more hilarious idea, though he’d obviously have to watch his mouth while doing so.
