A film’s overall domestic gross is extremely important.  It sets the stage of whether or not it gets a sequel.  And it’s a foreshadowing of how it will be received when it goes worldwide (some regions get American films months after the original United States release date).  The haul is getting crazy now.  Of course, at the top of the pack is the movie with the droids and the lightsabers.  And might I add that the haul is a pretty impressive feat.  At almost $1 billion earned, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) is the took in the highest overall domestic box office return of any movie.

For Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this is the number to beat.  Comic books are quintessentially American, so going to see this movie may just be part of the national zeitgeist.  Whether you’re a hater or a fanboy, I’m sure you’re curious as to what this film is about.  I guarantee that not everyone who went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) was a die-hard fan.  Some may have just wanted to be part of experience.  And Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be no different.
