Justice League Lighter Than Batman v Superman

The upcoming Justice League: Part One will have a lighter tone than the grim darkness of Batman v Superman

Batman v Superman is pretty dark for a comic book film. In some cases, quite literally (does any part of that movie take time during the day)? While it might be appropriate for a movie featuring Batman going up against Superman, and dealing with the consequences of the damage Superman caused, that level of serious and may not be the best idea for every DC property that is getting the movie treatment. Luckily, Warner Bros., DC and especially Batman v Superman and Justice League writer Chris Terrio seems to agree with that notion, as he is aiming for a lighter, more uplifting tone for Justice League:

"Batman v Superman is a bit of an Empire Strikes Back or Two Towers or any similar middle film in a trilogy. The middle film tends to be the darkest one. I do think from Man of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really.I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman. From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit."

So honestly this gives me a little more optimism. Not necessarily about the quality of Batman v Superman or Justice League, because Zack Snyder is still directing those films, but at least about the direction of DC films in general. Justice League should be lighter than Batman v Superman, because it’s presumably about heroes trusting each other and working together to save the world. It certainly shouldn’t get even darker. And while I could handle say, a dark Wonder Woman or Aquaman film, characters like the Flash should not be dark. That’s not their nature or style. So let’s hope that if Batman v Superman is a little too dark, we’ll find Justice League more our style and be more ok with Batman v Superman in the process because it leads to Justice League. Justice League: Part One starts filming next month and will be out November 2017.
