Ben Affleck compares the opening scene in Batman v Superman to Aliens and Se7en
Well, we know Batman v Superman is going for a darker tone than your most of your modern comic book films. But will it evoke a horror film? That’s what Batman v Superman star Ben Affleck says the opening of the film is like.
"Exactly. It’s like out of “Se7en” or “Aliens” or something, which is a really different vibe. My son still watches the Adam West “Batman” [TV series]. It’s a far cry from where it started."
Now that quote is a tad out of context here, and I think the full context is important, because the person interviewing Ben Affleck said the opening felt a horror movie, and then Affleck agreed with that sentiment rather than suggesting it on his own. Because on so many levels that statement makes no sense.
Next: Batman v Superman: Superman is Apollo, Batman Is Hades
I’m not saying a comic book film (or a PG-13 film for that matter, which the theatrical cut is) can’t evoke horror, but despite the grim dark tone of Batman v Superman, there is literally nothing we’ve seen so far that even brings a hint of horror to the film. Also, Ben Affleck is comparing the opening of Batman v Superman to two wildly different movies. Both which you might argue, aren’t even really horror films. And then there’s the question of if you even want Batman v Superman to feel like a horror film. Batman v Predator or Aliens, sure (they did make comics of those, it could be a movie someday), but not Batman v Superman. Maybe it’s the fault of the reporter for asking such a leading question and Affleck just kinda went with it, but I seriously doubt any part of Batman v Superman will feel like a horror film. I guess we’ll find out for sure March 25th.
