Director’s Cut Of Batman v Superman Getting Theatrical Release?
You may get to see the director’s cut of Batman v Superman in theaters before it’s on video
The PG-13 theatrical cut of Batman v Superman is in theaters right now. But it’s common knowledge that there is a longer cut, that is rated R and contains characters that weren’t in the theatrical release such as Jena Malone’s character who may or may not be Barbara Gordon. You will definitely be able to check out the director’s cut of Batman v Superman for yourself on July 16th on home video. But there’s a chance you may be able to see the full version of Batman v Superman before that.
Umberto Gonzalez, scoopmaster over at Heroic Hollywood is claiming that Warner Bros. is heavily considering a theatrical release of the 3-hour R-rated director’s cut of Batman v Superman before the home video release on July 16th. The thinking behind this move is that it will of course entice fans to come back for repeat viewings with more footage, but also those like me who would wonder if the extra 30 minutes fills in at least some of the gaping plot holes in the film and actually improves the movie. This was actually the case with Ben Affleck’s last superhero movie, Daredevil. The R-rated director’s cut of the film was generally thought to be a huge improvement over the abysmal theatrical release (though it still couldn’t make it a good film). Obviously if this was to happen, Warner Bros. would have to make this decision rather quickly as we are just a little over 3 months away from the home video release.

Now of course, this is just a rumor. But it seems fairly plausible. If a second theatrical release might be enough to push Batman v Superman over the billion dollar box office mark, I could definitely see Warner Bros. doing it so they can say Batman v Superman grossed a billion dollars. We should hear news if this is actually happening soon because it’s a pretty small window.
