Gary Oldman gives some advice on how to play Jim Gordon

Gary Oldman is one of the greatest actors of this generation bar none. And although there are several roles he’s pretty well known for, I think most nerds would identify him as the definitive version of Jim Gordon (or maybe that series about wizards, that was big for a minute, right?) in the seminal Dark Knight trilogy. Admittedly, it might be kind of by default but he was the first real portrayal of Gordon as anything but hapless or bumbling (in the movies anyways). A heroic, incorruptible cop always determined to do the right thing in a city filled with crime and corruption. As someone who defined Jim Gordon for a generation of moviegoers, Oldman was recently asked what he advice he had for J.K. Simmons, who was recently announced in the role of the Commissioner of the GCPD in the upcoming Justice League movie:

"The thing you’ve just got to get used to with Gordon is he’s a really sound detective, first of all. And he’s really incorruptible, which is a kind of wonderful quality to play and sort of, like, true blue. He’s like a Watson, oddly. He’s sort of like Watson to Sherlock, is Gordon to Batman."

Jim Gordon, really incorruptible? Somebody should have a chat with the guys over at Gotham about that… I have little doubt J.K. Simmons will have trouble doing justice to the role of Jim Gordon, he’s an incredibly accomplished actor. Whether or not he will be able to bring that all across in Justice League is another question entirely because we just have no idea how much screen time he will have. I would think he’ll only be a scene or two and they are just really locking him up for a solo Batman film down the road.
