Batman v Superman Is Not The Boss In Third Weekend
Batman v Superman narrowly beaten out by Melissa McCarthy’s comedy The Boss In Third Weekend
Well, we pretty much saw this coming. Batman v Superman was king of the box office for two short weeks without any real competition, and has had such a precipitous drop off it couldn’t even fend off the almost universally panned Melissa McCarthy comedy “The Boss”, which shouldn’t be serious competition for and $250 million movie, even in its third week.
Granted, it was an incredibly narrow victory by “The Boss”, which inched out Batman v Superman by a mere .1 million for the box office, but again for a movie as big as Batman v Superman, even a few weeks in, it shouldn’ have been that close. This represents a 54% drop off from last weekend’s jaw dropping 69% drop for Batman v Superman.
Batman v Superman seems destined to fall much further next weekend, when the highly anticipated and already extremely well-reviewed Jungle Book live-action remake hits theaters. While it should pass $800 million globally, that magic billion dollar box office everyone keeps throwing around seems to be impossibility now.

So will these disappointing numbers lead to a theatrical release of the R-rated director’s cut of Batman v Superman? Seeing as we are 3 months out from the home video release of the film which is on July 16th, Warner Bros. would have to make this decision rather quickly in order to best capitalize on any additional box office, but I don’t really think it would add the amount needed to boost the film to $900 million, much less past that magical billion dollar mark, and it could conceivably cut into home video sales and rentals, since people definitely might want to check out just what is in that extra footage, but won’t buy the movie if they see it in theaters.
