David Ayer Wanted Suicide Squad Reshoots
David Ayer asked for Suicide Squad reshoots when given the option
Reshoots can be a very tricky thing. While they are always an attempt to make a film better, it can be questionable what is meant by “better”. “Better” could mean the film is a train wreck and the studio is desperately trying to salvage it into something they can release into theaters with minimal damage. “Better” could mean the studio doesn’t like the director’s vision, good or bad, and are doing reshoots to add what they want regardless of whether it helps or hurts the film. But it can also mean that the director wants to make an already awesome film more awesome and that’s what Suicide Squad director David Ayer is saying about the Suicide Squad reshoots.
Ayer tweeted out that the reshoots are purely for adding more action into Suicide Squad (not humor, which was rumored but already shot down by Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney), but that Warner Bros. was really pleased with what they already had and asked Ayer if there was anything else he wanted, so he asked for the reshoots:

So it’s certainly good to ear from both one of the stars and the director of Suicide Squad that the reshoots are basically to make the film more action -packed and not really to fix any problems with the movie. You could easily see in the recently released trailer that there is plenty of humor sprinkled throughout the film, so the rumors that the film didn’t really resemble what was present in that first official trailer released just a couple months ago are completely false. Suicide Squad looks to be a fun and funny action-filled good time at the theaters when it opens on August 5th.
