Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1, Episode 11 Synopsis: “The Magnificent Eight”

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will travel to the Old West where they will meet Jonah Hex.

“Progeny” — the tenth episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow saw the team traveling to 2147 during the height of a corporate utopia known as the Kasnia Conglomerate. Their mission: kill a genocidal tyrant who will accelerate Vandal Savage’s rise to power. The catch: the said tyrant is still a 14-year old boy. It was a battle of morals which ended with the team not succeeding at their mission. Well, they may not have met the objectives of why they came here, but at least they won their humanity. Still, Rip’s family will die and the apocalypse is inevitable, albeit, on an even more accelerated timeline. Oh, don’t you just love how messing with past events puts a wrinkle on future ones?

The episode had so much potential, but the Legends of Tomorrow writers seemed to have phoned it in towards the end. How so? We had Ray suddenly telling everyone he had a brother, Sidney — a person who was never mentioned anywhere in the Arrow-verse. And we had Mick choosing not to kill Leonard and voluntarily alerting the Legends to the Hunters — unstoppable mercenaries sent by the Time Masters to eradicate the team, including Mick, from the timeline. Though Mick’s divulging of the Time Masters’ plans was still self-serving, he could’ve just killed Leonard and be on his merry way. Like I said, the episode could’ve used a bit more conflict and challenge.

This week, the Legends venture to the Old West and meet another DC hero — Jonah Hex. The first time we saw a live-incarnation of the character was in the badly received 2010 movie Jonah Hex starring Josh Brolin as the titular character and John Malkovich as Quentin Turnbull. Hopefully, this upcoming incarnation in Legends of Tomorrow will be much better. Here’s the official synopsis for “The Magnificent Eight”:

"When the team needs a place to hide out, Rip (Arthur Darvill) sets a course for the Old West. Upon arrival, they start a fight with a gang of outlaws, putting the small town in jeopardy. Luckily, an old friend of Rip’s, Jonah Hex (guest star Johnathon Schaech), steps in to save them."
