Will Smith talks about portraying DC’s deadliest assassin in Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is only a few months away, and it will feature many DC villains and characters making their first appearance on the big screen. One of those is Will Smith as master assassin Deadshot. Deadshot is well-known to comic book fans, but is certainly a more obscure character to the general public. And Will Smith is super-excited about bringing Deadshot to life in Suicide Squad:

"It’s a character that hasn’t really been explored in cinema. I get to design it and be a part of creating the first round of Deadshot in the history of cinema… It’s a really great opportunity to work with a really great ensemble. It was perfectly cast. It’s an insane group of super actor villains."

Will Smith also trusts the vision of director David Ayer to make Suicide Squad stand out amongst the many comic book films out there today:

"These kinds of movies are a different breed. The huge, gigantic tentpoles that are designed to be global behemoths. I wanted to do something like that with David Ayer, who is a director that cares only about character. Every single aspect and detail of the character playing into that gigantic box for me is what makes this one really special."

Will Smith clearly had a good time on Suicide Squad with Ayer, as he is teaming with the director again for his upcoming orcs and cops fantasy, “Bright”. Smith is no stranger to big action films or comic book films for that matter (Men In Black), but can he successfully portray one of DC’s deadliest villains on the big screen well? Judging by the trailers so far, I’d say he’s nailing it. Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th.
