The Killing Joke movie is officially coming August 2nd, but you can get it a little earlier on digital release

Yesterday, Amazon had listed the highly anticipated Killing Joke movie as coming out on August 2nd. While this was likely, we hadn’t heard any official confirmation from Warner Bros. Now, through Entertainment Weekly, Warner Bros. has indeed confirmed that the Killing Joke will release on Blu-ray and DVD on August 2nd, with it being available to purchase digitally a little earlier July 23rd. Warner Bros. also provided details on what you can expect with the deluxe edition of The Killing Joke.

Two episodes from the seminal Batman: The Animated Series will be included on all versions. The deluxe edition and combo pack versions of the Killing Joke will also include two featurettes: “Madness Set To Music”, which focuses on the storyboard creations and the score of The Killing Joke, and “Many Shades of Joker: The Tale of The Killing Joke”, which explores the seminal graphic novel that the film is based on. The Blu-ray edition will also come with a limited edition Joker figure. This is pretty much tradition by now as most blu-ray editions of animated DC films come with a figure of some sort.

There seem to be two glaring omissions from this list of special features though. One, no commentary track. It’s not on every DC animated film, but commentary tracks are pretty much the only reason I’d get a blu-ray these days. And you’d think for something as historic as The Killing Joke movie, they’d include one.  More unusual is no preview of DC’s next animated film. Granted, this takes place outside the continuity of DC’s current animated films, so maybe that’s why, but it’s very unusual for them not to promote their next movie in some form. We’ll be sure to review The Killing Joke when it comes out on Blu-ray and DVD August 2nd and give you our thoughts.
