#20 – Creating a New Element

Tony Stark’s arc reactor came with a price. When he originally created it, the arc reactor required a heavy element — palladium. Due to the element being constantly eroded via neutron bombardment, toxins were released into Tony’s bloodstream.
With clues from Howard Stark’s past research and archived film footage (see Greatest Iron Man Moment #12), Tony was able to figure out that his father left him a legacy — the blueprints to a new element. Toiling day and night and rebuilding the infrastructure of his home research lab, Tony was able to create a particle accelerator.
Firing up the particle accelerator, Tony created a whole new element that would be a replacement for palladium. Against JARVIS’s recommendations, Tony inserted the new element into his arc reactor. I guess that’s just how Tony rolls. As the arc reactor fired up, the Golden Avenger ecstatically claimed that it not only re-energized him, but it tasted like coconut and metal.
